Step-by-Step Diagnostic & Repair Process
Step 1: Physical & Mechanical Inspection
Check Ticket Stock: Ensure tickets are properly loaded, not folded incorrectly, and that the tension roll is not too tight.
Inspect the Roller Path: Open the ticket dispenser module (such as Deltronic Labs DL-1275 or similar standard mechanisms). Check rubber rollers for wear, hardening, or accumulated paper dust.
Clean Rollers: Wipe down drive rollers using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to restore grip.
Step 2: Testing the Optical Ticket Notch Sensor (IR Sensor)
Most arcade ticket dispensers use an infrared through-beam sensor to detect the small triangle notches between individual tickets.
Symptom of Dirty/Faulty IR Sensor: The motor dispenses tickets continuously without stopping until an error triggers, or it dispenses 1 ticket and immediately halts with an error.
How to Fix:
Blow out dust from the optical notch sensor channel using compressed air.
Use a cotton swab with IPA to clean the small optical lenses (transmitter and receiver) on the dispenser board.
Inspect the notch LED status on the dispenser board: the LED should flash rapidly as tickets pass through the beam gap. If the LED stays solid ON or OFF, replace the ticket sensor board assembly.
Step 3: Voltage & Wiring Verification
Measure power input at the ticket dispenser connector pins using a multimeter:
Power Pin: Should read $+12\text{V DC}$ (or $+5\text{V DC}$ depending on dispenser model).
Ground (GND): $0\text{V}$.
Measure the Enable/Trigger Line while triggering a payout test:
When activated, the control line from the mainboard should pull LOW or HIGH to signal the motor drive circuit.
If $+12\text{V}$ power is missing, check cabinet fuses or power supply connections.
Step 4: Board-Level Diagnostic (Mainboard Driver Repair)
If the ticket motor, wiring, and sensor are tested and functional on a bench setup, but the machine still won't trigger payout from the main cabinet:
Trace the Ticket Output Line: Trace the trigger trace from the ticket output header back to the mainboard drive transistor or ULN darlington array IC (e.g., ULN2003 / ULN2803) or buffer logic IC.
Check Buffer ICs: As seen with coin input faults, signal line drivers between CPU and peripheral ports can burn out from power fluctuations.
